A denture is a custom-made removable appliance that replaces missing teeth and surrounding gum tissue. Dentures are crafted from impressions of your mouth to fit securely and comfortably, and they're designed to look natural and enhance your smile. Modern dentures are more comfortable and natural-looking than ever before.
Complete Dentures: Used when all teeth in one or both arches are missing. A complete denture sits directly on your gums and jawbone.
Partial Dentures: Used when you still have some natural teeth remaining. A partial denture fills the gaps and prevents your remaining teeth from shifting, maintaining proper bite alignment and preventing further tooth loss.
For patients who want the best of both worlds, implant-supported dentures offer superior stability and comfort. Dental implants are surgically placed in your jawbone, and your denture attaches securely to these implants. This option provides better chewing power, eliminates slippage, and prevents bone loss that occurs with traditional dentures. We can discuss this option during your consultation.
Step 1 – Consultation & Impressions: We evaluate your oral health and take detailed impressions and photos. We also discuss your expectations for fit, appearance, and comfort.
Step 2 – Bite Registration & Shade Selection: We record your bite relationship and help you choose a shade that matches your natural appearance.
Step 3 – Try-In: Before final completion, we have you try in your dentures to check fit, bite, appearance, and speech. Any adjustments are made at this stage.
Step 4 – Delivery & Adjustment: Your finished dentures are placed and fine-tuned for optimal comfort and function. We provide care instructions and schedule follow-up visits.
Dentures require daily care to keep them clean, comfortable, and looking their best:
The typical process takes 3-6 weeks from initial impressions to final delivery. We complete each denture through several appointments (impressions, try-in, final delivery) to ensure perfect fit and appearance.
How long do dentures last?Well-maintained dentures typically last 5-10 years. Over time, your gums and jawbone change shape, so dentures may need adjustment (relining) every 3-5 years to maintain proper fit and comfort.
Can I sleep with my dentures in?It's best to remove your dentures at night and soak them in a cleaning solution. This gives your gums time to rest, breathe, and recover. Sleeping in dentures can lead to gum irritation, fungal infections, and accelerated bone loss.
Are implant-supported dentures better than traditional dentures?Implant-supported dentures offer advantages like better stability, improved chewing power, and prevention of bone loss. However, they require surgery and cost more. Traditional dentures are still an excellent, non-surgical option. We'll help you choose what's best for your situation and budget.
